The Italian Garden
This Mediterranean-style garden replaced a drab pair of sloping lawns, separated and surrounded by cracked concrete paths. The area was difficult to mow and, on
account of the slope, was not comfortable for use as a recreational garden. The area faces due South and has the benefit of early morning sun. The area
between the hovel and the barn was terraced into two levels, making a pleasant seating area with commanding views just out of the barn’s East doors. The middle
part of the garden was centred on a Cretan water feature with symmetrical flowerbeds and filled with sun-loving plants. The lowest part of the area was
terraced and provides parking and a 50 metre drive.
